 is a fully equipped Pilates studio offering high quality one-on-one sessions and group classes in Scarborough, Maine (just 15 mins from downtown Portland). At Scarborough Pilates I will provide you personalized attention, safe and functional teaching.  I  understand that in each of us we have great strengthens and imbalances so  that no two bodies are the same. My aim is to work with each student as an individual with unique needs and your sessions or classes will be geared towards your own individual goals.

I have always been a mover. Starting at a young age, I began to pursue my dream of becoming a professional dancer. This journey has taken me through many professional schools and companies throughout Canada and New York City.  I have performed throughout the United States and Europe with the Carolyn Dorfman Dance Company for 14 years.

My love of movement has inspired me to work as a group fitness instructor and personal trainer. In 2003, I enrolled in  Kelly Kane's School of Core Integration for my Pilates Certification. I chose the School of Core Integration because of their focus on anatomy and biomechanics, while adhering to the system of movements developed by Joseph Pilates.

I am also a certified aerial yoga instructor. I received my certification through Michelle Dortignac, founder of Unnata Aerial Yoga. 

Most recently I received my certification as a Movement and Postural Analyst through Anatomy Trains and KMI, developed by Tom Myers. Combining my experience and education in movement, pilates and anatomy, I work with my clients to obtain life-long body alignment and postural improvements by focusing on the structural health of each individual. My goal is to empower my clients to learn more about how their bodies works, and how they can achieve freedom of movement without pain, whether they are training, rehabilitating or looking to improve their current level of fitness. Wendee is currently pursuing a certification as a Buff Bones instructor. Buff Bones is a medically-endorsed system of movement for bone and joint health. It integrates Pilates, strength-training, functional movement and therapeutic exercise with bone strengthening and balance techniques, and is safe for those with osteoporosis.

Rori Smith - instructor

Rori Smith is an dancer, somatic researcher, and movement educator. Rori holds an MFA in dance from Temple University and 450-hour Pilates certification from Drexel University. The classical Pilates repertory is at the core of her teaching, melded with a deep interest in biomechanics, functional anatomy, neuromuscular patterning, and a fundamental belief that there is never an end to the new information we can learn from our bodies. Her approach to Pilates is somatically informed with the goals of helping students locate themselves in space, increase awareness, find balance in the body, and cultivate freedom and efficiency in functional movement.

JESSICA BARZELL - Teaching July 3rd - July 7th


Jessica knows what it feels like to want huge changes in 60 minutes.  I know what it feels like to have fears about getting back to your life, your sport, your dance after an injury. I know what it feels like to be just a little bored when asked to deepen your breath. I experienced all of these. Tell a ballet loving 6-year old she can’t be a dancer because her knees "knock" and watch determination unfold. I loved performing so nothing was going to stop me from dancing. I never had the perfect ballet body so I focused on working harder than anyone else. I studied at The Royal Ballet School, The Sarasota Ballet, and the Nutmeg Conservatory. I danced with Liz Lerman's Dance Exchange, Emily Johnson’s Catalyst and Fuzion Dance Artists.  

During a graduate program in dance I injured myself while in a modern dance class. The professor of Kinesiology suggested I do Pilates to rehab my knee and my neck. The exercises and principles rehabilitated my injuries and taught me how to accentuate my strengths and fortify my weaknesses.

I began my teaching career at Kirov Academy of Dance in Washington, DC. teaching mat to professional dancers 6 hours a day.  I went on to teach as a professor at the University of Virginia, and then to NYC to work in a physical therapist’s office in The City Center.  From there, I was hired by Erika Bloom Pilates Plus to teach celebrity clientele and train teachers in her well respected method.

In 10 years of teaching, my certifications and trainings include Mount Sinai’s Cadaver Lab, Equinox, Teri Steele Pilates, STOTT Pilates, CPR, Kane School of Core Integration, Pilates for Scoliosis, Pre and Post Natal Pilates, Anatomy Trains Structural Integration, Gary Ward’s Anatomy in Motion and Pilates for Golfers. Having studied and performed Improv comedy acting for years, I will make you laugh when appropriate (while your abs are burning) and listen to your stories. 

I opened Jessica Barzell Pilates in the Spring of 2017 to offer my clients a more intimate and personal experience while continuing to guest teach at Equinox. I relocated to Boston Massachusetts in January of 2019.

MARIE LLYOD PASPE - Teaching July 15th - July 20th


Marie Lloyd Paspe is a native of Singapore and Philippines who grew up in Mississauga, ON, Canada, and Bellingham, MA. She received her early dance training from Jessica Wilson at MetroWest Ballet and graduated summa cum laude from the Ailey/Fordham BFA Program in 2016, studying dance performance and business administration. Paspe performed on tour with Carolyn Dorfman Dance, and worked with choreographers Renee Jaworski, Peter Chu, Jae Mann Joo, Omar Carrum, Rami Be’er, Martin Harriague, and Manuel Vignoulle. In 2015, she studied abroad in Israel at Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company’s International Dance Program, where she also premiered her first work. She attended Springboard Danse Montreal in 2017, performing works-in-progress by Peter Chu and Eva Kolarova. Currently she teaches pilates and dance, collaborates/choreographs, and freelances commercial modeling. Paspe is incredibly grateful to begin her first season with BTJAZ.

LOUIS MARIN-HOWARD Teaching July 22nd - July 27th and Aug 12th - 17th

Louie began his dance training in San Jose, CA. He was a scholarship student of the Martha Graham and Jennifer Muller/The Works Schools. He has been dancing with the Carolyn Dorfman dance company since 2009. Louie just recently retired from dancing in June and moved to Chattanooga, TN where he is starting his new adventure!

Louie received his Pilates Mat and Apparatus certification from The Lab in Brooklyn, NY. He loves sharing his passion for Pilates. Louie believes that Pilates is the Technique to the Technique, there must be a balance of strength and flexibility in order to achieve maximum stability and grace.  

KATLYN WALDO- GUEST INSTRUCTOR Teaching June 17th - 19th, July 29th - August 3rd and August 19th - 24th


Katlyn Waldo (Rehearsal Director) is a Texas native but her early modern dance training was in Knoxville, TN at Dancer’s Studio under the direction of Irena Linn. As the youngest member of the Tennessee Children’s Dance Ensemble, TN’s Goodwill Ambassadors, she toured domestically and internationally performing works by the company’s founder, Dr. Dorothy Floyd, as well as guest choreographers Peter Pucci, Michael Mao, Claire Bataille and Eleo Pomare. She received her B.A. in Dance Performance from Randolph-Macon Woman’s College, where she performed in works by Paul Taylor, Maureen Mansfield, Walter Kennedy, Delia Niel, Jill Edwards, Genia Melakova, and soloist roles in works by Martha Graham, Susan Marshall and Rachel Berman. After moving to New York City upon graduation, Katlyn danced with alangoodedance, Nicholas Andre Dance, KDNY, and Michael Mao (after first meeting him at age 11). Katlyn is a PMA nationally certified Pilates instructor. She currently works at Groundfloor Pilates Studio, has private clients, and has taught at schools and studios across Manhattan, at NJ Summer Dance, and at Scarborough Pilates in Maine. Katlyn was appointed Rehearsal Assistant in 2015.
